ADA Staking Rewards

Estimates yearly ADA delegation rewards at 4.2% average APR.

ADA Staking on Cardano

Cardano runs on Ouroboros Praos, a peer-reviewed Proof-of-Stake protocol built by IOHK under Charles Hoskinson, who co-founded Ethereum. When ADA holders delegate to a stake pool, custody never changes hands. The keys stay put in your Daedalus or Yoroi wallet. Annualized rewards come out to reward = principal × APR × (days / 365). APR usually lands somewhere between 3% and 5%, and it's paid every epoch (5 days) straight to the staking address.

A few things set it apart from most PoS chains. There's no lock-up, so you can spend ADA whenever you want. There's no slashing either, which means a pool operator can miss blocks but delegators never lose principal. And delegation stays liquid, with rewards auto-compounded as long as you stick with the same pool. Popular pools include ATXM, DEUS, and the ones IOG runs directly. Watch out for over-delegation past the saturation point, around 70M ADA per pool, since that drags returns down and tends to push people toward redelegating.

Applications

Use this calculator to estimate epoch-by-epoch returns on a long-term ADA position. You can also compare pools that charge different fees (a 0% margin promo pool versus the 340 ADA fixed fee plus variable margin), forecast compounding over a 1–5 year horizon, or weigh the opportunity cost of shifting ADA into a DeFi protocol like Minswap or Liqwid, where yields might be higher but you're taking on smart-contract risk.

FAQ

Do I lose custody of my ADA when I delegate? No. Delegating just signs a certificate that ties your stake address to a pool. The ADA stays in your wallet, and you can spend or move it whenever you like without un-delegating first.

How soon after delegating do I start earning? Because of the snapshot model, rewards kick in two full epochs after your first delegation, so roughly 10–15 days. From then on you earn every 5 days, continuously, for as long as you stay delegated.

Is staking taxed in Brazil? Yes. The Receita Federal counts staking rewards as income the moment you receive them (Carnê-Leão, or DARF for monthly gains above R$ 35,000). For your annual declaration, hang on to an export of the epoch rewards from Pool.pm or AdaStat.
