For technique, go with the modified Bass method. Angle the bristles at 45° to the gum line, make short vibratory movements, and sweep toward the occlusal surface. FAQ

Is brushing harder cleaner? No. Too much pressure wears down the enamel and pulls the gums back. Keep to soft bristles and a light hand; plaque is soft and lifts off without any scrubbing.

Electric or manual? Either one does the job if you brush for 2 minutes with good technique. Systematic reviews credit oscillating-rotating electric brushes with a small extra drop in plaque, but how you brush and for how long count for more than the brush itself.
