โ
Airport-to-city transit time
How long it takes to get from the airport into town comes down to three things: distance, how you travel and what the traffic looks like. A decent baseline is time = distance / average_speed + boarding_buffer. Some numbers to anchor on. GRU - downtown Sao Paulo runs about 30-45 min by Airport Bus, or 60-90 min by car when traffic is bad. CGH is closer in, more like 15-30 min. JFK - Manhattan is around an hour on the NYC Airporter, while LHR - central London is roughly 15 min on the Heathrow Express or close to an hour if you take the Tube. Whatever you pick, leave room for security, baggage claim and the wait for a ride.
Applications
Handy when you're working out tight connections on a multi-leg trip, weighing Uber Premium against the airport bus, comparing MaaS apps like Citymapper or Moovit, or deciding if it's worth booking an airport hotel for a sunrise departure.
FAQ
Bus or Uber from GRU? The Airport Bus to Paulista or Republica is far cheaper than an Uber, and since it uses dedicated lanes in rush hour it often gets you there faster than a car would.
How much buffer for an international connection? Plan on 2-3 hours at the very least, enough to clear immigration and re-check your bags. Give yourself even more at busy hubs like JFK or CDG.
Does ride-hailing work at every airport? No. A few airports only allow pickups in set zones, and some ban app-based services outright, so check before you count on one.
