Dividend Yield of the QQQ ETF

QQQ is the Invesco QQQ Trust, run by Invesco since its 1999 launch. The fund follows the Nasdaq-100, which holds the 100 biggest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq. Technology dominates the basket, with names such as Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia carrying most of the weight. To find the dividend yield here, the calculator divides the annual dividend per share by the share price and multiplies by 100 (the formula in yield = (annual dividend per share ÷ share price) × 100), giving you a percentage.

Among the big U.S. equity ETFs, QQQ pays the least, usually around 0.5%. The reason is straightforward: its tech-heavy holdings plow profits back into growth instead of cutting large dividend checks. The 0.20% expense ratio runs above what S&P 500 funds charge, which fits its more specialized index. Type in the share price and the trailing annual distributions and you'll see the income component, small as it is.

Applications

It helps confirm that QQQ is built for growth rather than income. You can stack its tiny yield up against S&P 500 ETFs, or work out the modest cash a position throws off. Investors who buy QQQ for growth pay far more attention to total return than to the yield.

FAQ

Why is QQQ's yield so low? Growth tech companies make up most of the Nasdaq-100, and they tend to keep their earnings rather than hand out big dividends.

What index does QQQ track? The Nasdaq-100, which leaves out financial companies. That makes it quite different from the broader S&P 500.

How often does QQQ pay? Once a quarter. Add up the four payments to get the annual dividend you enter here.
