Greco-Roman wrestling scoring
Under UWW scoring, Total = projections×5 + takedowns×2 + passivity_pts. A match runs two periods of 3 min. You can win by pin (fall), by an 8-point technical superiority in greco, or just by being ahead on points. What sets Greco-Roman apart is that no holds are allowed below the waist, so everything happens with the upper body.
It's been an Olympic event since the first modern Games in 1896. Brazil sent Joice Souza, Aline Silva and Rosa dos Santos in 2024. The sport is run by UWW (United World Wrestling, formerly FILA), and in Brazil by CBLA (Confederação Brasileira de Lutas Associadas). Freestyle is the obvious point of comparison, since it does allow leg attacks.
Applications
Handy for CBLA tournaments, prepping for the UWW World Championship, chasing Olympic qualification, building an MMA cross-training base, or running a school PE wrestling club.
FAQ
5-point throw? A grand amplitude throw, where the opponent's hips go above their shoulders in flight and they land on their back. You don't see it often at elite level.
Passivity rule? When a wrestler stays inactive for 30s, the opponent picks up 1 point plus parterre, the ground position advantage.
Weight categories? The Olympics use 6 male and 6 female categories, which were reworked for Paris 2024.
