HP-12C discounted payback
Where simple payback falls short, discounted payback (DPB) brings each future flow back to present value before counting it: DPB: t when Σ FC_t/(1+r)^t ≥ Inv₀. On the HP-12C you enter the taxa with [i], then either run NPV iteratively or fill in a cumulative table by hand. Expect the answer to land roughly 20-50% longer than the simple version. Aceitar se DPB < prazo máximo aceitável e VPL > 0.
One thing it does not fix: tudo que entra depois do payback continua sendo ignorado (a mesma limitação do simple PB). CFA Nível 1 cobra; ANBIMA CEA/CFG inclui.
Applications
Shows up a lot in project finance BNDES, na conta de uma incorporadora imobiliária, em mineração (long-cycle), em startups com Series A/B e na pré-triagem de M&A.
FAQ
DPB sempre > PB simples? Sim.
