Income Tax Yearly BR

Computes yearly income tax (BR) using 2024 progressive table.

Brazilian IRPF progressive table — 2024

Brazil's individual income tax (Imposto de Renda Pessoa Física, IRPF) runs off a progressive monthly table that Law 14.663/2023 updated. In 2024, monthly income up to R$ 2,259.20 pays nothing. Above that line you hit brackets of 7.5%, 15%, 22.5% and 27.5%. Since taxing the full amount at the top rate would overcharge people sitting just past a boundary, each bracket carries a fixed "parcela dedutível" that gets subtracted: IRPF = base · alíquota − parcela dedutível.

For the annual return, you get the equivalent base ranges by multiplying the monthly limits by 12, so the exemption stretches to R$ 27,110.40/year. The Receita Federal wants the annual declaration once taxable income passes R$ 30,639.90 in 2024. Other situations trigger it too, like rural income, capital gains or foreign assets.

Applications

Use this calculator to estimate the IRPF withheld at the source (IRRF) on salaries, to see how much tax you'll owe or get back on the annual return, to weigh net income across two job offers, or to plan deductions. Those deductions cover dependents, official pension, INSS, alimony, and private pension PGBL up to 12% of gross income.

FAQ

Is the rate applied to the full income? No. The system is progressive, so only the slice of income that falls inside a given bracket pays that bracket’s rate. The "parcela dedutível" is a shortcut that makes the one-line formula come out the same as adding up the brackets one at a time.

Who must file the annual declaration? You have to file if your taxable income topped R$ 30,639.90 in 2024, your exempt income went over R$ 200,000, you had capital gains, your rural activity passed R$ 153,199.50, or you owned assets worth more than R$ 800,000 on Dec 31. A few other criteria apply as well.

Simplified or full deduction? The simplified discount swaps out every legal deduction for a flat 20%, capped at R$ 16,754.34 (2024). Run both and keep whichever leaves you with less tax.

Breakeven Tax Rate (Tax-Free vs Taxable)

Computes the breakeven tax rate between a tax-free bond and a taxable one: the rate at which the after-tax return of the two becomes equal, t* = 1 − (tax-free yield / taxable yield). Above that rate, the tax-free bond (like a municipal) pays off more; below it, the taxable one is worth it even after tax. It's the calculation that decides between the two based on your tax bracket. Enter the yields of the tax-free and taxable bonds.

Nelson-Siegel Yield Curve

Computes the spot rate for any maturity using the Nelson-Siegel model, the most widely used way to fit the yield curve with few parameters. The three betas control the long-run level, the slope and the curvature, while lambda sets where the curve takes shape. Central banks and fixed-income desks use this model to smooth and interpolate curves from traded bonds. Enter the three betas in percent, the lambda and the desired maturity.
