O que é leet speak?

Leet speak (escrito como 1337) é uma forma alternativa de escrita popularizada por gamers e comunidades online dos anos 90, que substitui letras por números ou símbolos com aparência semelhante. O nome vem de "elite""leet".

No nível básico, apenas as vogais e algumas consoantes comuns são substituídas (a→4, e→3, i→1, o→0, s→5, t→7). No nível avançado, todas as letras do alfabeto têm equivalentes em símbolos (h→#, w→\/\/ etc.). Use para criar nicks de games, senhas memorizáveis ou estilizar mensagens.

From n00b swaps to full 1337

You want a distinctive gaming nick, a stylized bio, or you received a message full of 3s, 4s and 0s standing in for letters and want to read it. This translator goes both ways: it converts plain text to leet speak and turns leet back into text, updating as you type, with a copy button right next to the result.

Basic level swaps six letters for lookalike digits: a becomes 4, e becomes 3, i becomes 1, o becomes 0, s becomes 5 and t becomes 7. Advanced covers all 26 letters with symbols, like h turning into # and x into ><. The catch: advanced is not reversible, since i and l both become 1, and p and r both become |2. That is why Leet to Text mode only undoes the six basic digits; symbols are left as they are.

For a gaming nick, stick to basic: almost every game accepts letters and digits but rejects symbols like # and |_|. And do not count on leet to strengthen a password: swapping a for 4 is the first substitution every cracking tool tries. For styling posts and messages, anything goes. Conversion happens entirely in your browser; your text is never sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Leet to Text leave the advanced symbols alone?
Because translating them would be ambiguous: 1 could be i or l, and |2 could be p or r. The decoder only reverses the six digit swaps from basic level.
Does leet make my password stronger?
Barely. The classic substitutions (4 for a, 0 for o) are built into every password cracker's rule sets. Length and randomness matter far more.
Can I use the output as a game username?
Basic level almost always works, since it is just letters and digits. Advanced depends on the game allowing symbols, which is rare for usernames.
