Mojito Recipe per Person

A single mojito comes together with per_person = 50 ml white rum + 60 ml soda water + 25 ml lime juice + 2 tbsp sugar + 6–8 mint leaves. For a group, just multiply each ingredient by your headcount: rum_total (ml) = 50 × guests, soda (ml) = 60 × guests, mint leaves = 7 × guests.

The mojito is a Cuban highball, usually built on a white rum like Havana Club or Bacardi. The IBA (International Bartenders Association) files it under “Contemporary Classic,” and a good chunk of its fame traces back to Ernest Hemingway, who drank his share during his years in Cuba, especially at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana.

Applications

Handy when you're planning a summer party or a themed event, setting up bar mise en place, or pricing out the drinks. A single 700 ml bottle of rum gets you about 14 mojitos. The same math also tells you how much sugar, fresh mint and soda to buy for catering.

FAQ

Should mint be muddled hard? Go easy. A gentle press lets the essential oils out without shredding the leaves, and torn leaves give the drink a bitter, grassy edge.

Can I replace soda with sparkling water? Yes. It comes out a touch less sweet, and the IBA spec is fine with either one.

Which rum is best? Light Cuban-style white rums are the classic call here, with Havana Club 3 anos or Bacardi Carta Blanca being the usual picks. Aged or dark rums tip the drink toward something heavier and further from the original.
