Daily rabbit care time by weight
For a daily time estimate, use minutes ≈ 30 + weight_kg × 8. That covers topping up the hay (5 min), pellets (5 min), fresh greens (5 min), cleaning and refilling the water bottle (3 min), scooping the litter box (5 min), letting the rabbit out for free-roam exercise (60-180 min) and brushing (5-15 min, which becomes a daily job for an Angora or Lionhead).
A rabbit needs at least 3-4h out of the cage every day. The diet breaks down to roughly 80% hay (Timothy or Coastal), 10% leafy greens such as kale, parsley and romaine, 5% pellets and 5% treats. The breeds you see most in Brazil are the Holland Lop, Mini Rex and Netherland Dwarf. CFMV recommends spaying or neutering at 4-6 months, and an annual myxomatosis/RHD vaccination wherever state guidelines allow it.
Applications
Handy for pricing a rabbit sitter, exotic pet care (ABCAS Associação Brasileira de Cuidadores de Animais Silvestres), house rabbit society guidance and geriatric rabbit care once they pass 7 years.
FAQ
Cage vs free-roam? Current advice leans toward free-roam in a rabbit-proofed space or a large x-pen, with at least 4× the rabbit's stretched-out length to move around in.
What about carrots? Keep them as an occasional treat, since they're too sugary for daily feeding. The Bugs Bunny diet is a myth; hay is what a rabbit actually lives on.
Lifespan? A well-cared-for indoor rabbit lives 8-12 years, against just 1-2 in poor conditions, and CFMV recommends a checkup every 6 months.
