Switching Auto Insurance — Savings Calculator
Put your current annual premium next to a fresh quote and you get the yearly savings: savings = current premium − new premium. In Brazil the premium gets recalculated at every renewal, and the exact same coverage can come back 20–40 % apart depending on the insurer. That alone is reason enough to pull at least three quotes before you let a policy renew on autopilot.
Anything that makes you look safer pushes the premium down. Turning 30, getting married, keeping the car in a covered garage, fitting a tracker, moving somewhere with fewer thefts. You also have a choice to make: a broker (corretora) handles the legwork and the claims, while buying straight from the insurer (seguradora) shaves a bit off the price. SUSEP regulates the whole sector and publishes solvency rankings if you want to check who you're dealing with.

Weigh up your bonus class too. It runs from 1 to 10, with 10 being the cleanest record; every year without a claim bumps you up a class and trims roughly 5 % off the premium, while a single claim wipes the bonus back to zero. Then there's the coverage itself: comprehensive (collision + theft + third-party) versus third-party only, which is far cheaper but leaves your own car unprotected. The big names here are Porto Seguro, Bradesco Auto, Allíana, SulAmérica and Azul Seguros.
FAQ
Broker or insurer direct? A broker shops several insurers for you and steps in when you have a claim, and it costs you nothing extra since the insurer pays the commission. Going direct can come out a little cheaper, but the paperwork is all on you.
Does my bonus class transfer to a new insurer? It does. Ask your current insurer for the "declaração de bonificação" and hand it to the new one, and your class carries over.
Is third-party only worth it? Mainly for older cars that aren't worth much. The savings can hit 60 %, but a total loss comes out of your own pocket. Once a car is worth more than R$ 30 k, comprehensive usually pays for itself.
