In Brazil a car or motorcycle loan is a CDC (Crédito Direto ao Consumidor), and it runs on the Price system with fixed instalments in nearly every case. The instalment comes from PMT = PV · i / (1 − (1+i)⁻ⁿ). Here PV is what you finance (price minus down payment), i is the monthly rate and n is the term in months. Example: finance R$ 40,000 at 1.99% a month over 48 months and the PMT lands around R$ 1,304, with total paid close to R$ 62,592. That works out to R$ 22,592 in interest. The vehicle itself backs the loan as collateral (alienação fiduciária).

For buyers with a good score, CDC vehicle rates have hovered between 1% and 2% per month across the 2024-2026 cycle. Banks finance new cars (0km) and used ones up to roughly 10 years old, and the minimum down payment is usually 20%. Watch out for the headline rate: it's often a promotional figure that assumes you also take auto insurance from the same group. The number that tells the truth is the CET (Custo Efetivo Total), which folds in IOF, opening fees and insurance. Does the instalment include mandatory insurance? No, it covers only principal and interest. The instalment you actually pay may bundle in auto insurance, GPS tracking and roadside assistance, so ask for the CET breakdown.

What is the difference between CDC and consórcio? CDC charges interest and hands you the car right away. A consórcio charges no interest (just an administration fee), but you have to wait for a draw or win a bid, which works fine when you're not in a hurry for the vehicle.
