Sizing a bracelet from wrist circumference
Wrap a flexible tape around the wrist just below the wrist bone to get the circumference, then tack on 1 to 2 cm of ease so the piece slides on without pinching. The formula is bracelet = wrist + ease. Among Brazilian adults you'll usually see women 16-18 cm and men 18-21 cm. A loose 18 cm bracelet sits comfortably on most women's wrists. So a 17 cm wrist plus 1.5 cm of ease lands you at an 18.5 cm bracelet.
Applications
Sizing costume jewelry and fine jewelry (gold, silver, platinum), charm and pandora-style chains, personalized gifts, custom orders for jewelers, and cutting down on e-commerce returns.
FAQ
How much ease should I add? Go with 1 cm when you want a snug fit (tennis-style bracelets, riviere). Bump it to 1.5-2 cm for a relaxed fit like charm bracelets and bangles, and 2-3 cm if you're layering or going oversized.
Should I measure over or under the wrist bone? Measure just below it, toward the hand. That's where the bracelet ends up resting anyway.
Does the clasp count? Yes. The clasp and every link are part of the total length, so measure the finished piece end-to-end with it closed.
