Bricks per Wall Calculator

Compute number of bricks needed for a wall by dimensions and brick type.

Brick quantity per wall

Estimate by square meter of wall: 6-hole ceramic brick 9×14×19 cm25/m² (laid half-brick), 8-hole 19×19×9 cm22/m², ecological soil-cement brick12/m², concrete block 14×19×39 cm12.5/m². Always add 5–10% for waste (cuts at corners, openings, breakage on site). Mortar joint thickness is typically 1 cm. Example: a wall 5 m × 2.7 m = 13.5 m² with 6-hole brick needs 13.5 × 25 = 337 bricks, plus ~10% waste = ≈ 371 bricks.

Applications and standards

Used for construction budgets at retailers (Leroy Merlin, Telhanorte, Cassol), bricklayers, self-build projects and quantity surveys. Distinguish partition walls (sealing) from structural masonry: structural masonry follows NBR 15812 (clay structural masonry) and NBR 15961 (concrete structural masonry), which require specific block strength and project design. For openings (doors, windows) subtract the area before multiplying by the brick/m² rate.

FAQ

Half-brick or full-brick wall? Half-brick (9 cm) is the most common for partitions; full-brick (19 cm) doubles brick consumption and is used for external walls or thermal/acoustic isolation.

Does the calculator include mortar? No, only bricks. Plan separately ~30 L of laying mortar per m² of wall (~1:6 cement:sand).

Why does my actual count differ? Brick dimensions vary by region and supplier (Brazilian ceramic brick has tolerance per NBR 15270) — always confirm the manufacturer's bricks-per-m² rate before buying.
