IPF GL

IPF GL Points: the official powerlifting metric

IPF GL (Goodlift) Points have been the official IPF standard since 2020, replacing the Wilks formula. The score is computed as GL = 100 × Total / (A − B·e^(−C·BW)), where A, B and C are coefficients that vary by sex (male / female) and equipment (classic/raw or equipped). The polynomial fits the world-record curve across body weights, producing a fair index where a 60 kg lifter and a 120 kg lifter can be compared on equal footing. A typical score: 70 indicates national level, 90+ international, 100+ world-class. Example: classic male, 83 kg bodyweight, 600 kg total ≈ 96 GL points.

Applications

Used at all IPF and CBLB-sanctioned meets to award "Best Lifter" titles, rank athletes across categories, and compare raw vs equipped performances when each modality uses its own coefficient table. It is also the metric Open / amateur leagues, USAPL and federations worldwide adopt by default.

FAQ

IPF GL vs Wilks vs DOTS? IPF GL is the current official IPF standard; Wilks (1994) was retired in 2020 because its curve no longer fit modern records; DOTS is an open alternative used in some non-IPF feds.

Are raw and equipped coefficients different? Yes — IPF GL uses separate tables for classic/raw and equipped, because lifters wearing suits and knee wraps move much heavier weights.

What's a great score? 90+ is international level; 100+ matches the modern world-record curve for that bodyweight.
