A date written as 1447 AH turns up in a document, a certificate or a news story, and you need to place it on the calendar you actually use. Or the other way round: you want to know which Islamic month a given date falls in, since Ramadan drifts back about eleven days a year and never sits still against the Gregorian year.

The page turns your date into a Julian day number and applies the tabular scheme: a 30-year cycle of 10,631 days, in which 11 years run 355 days and the rest 354. That is arithmetic, not observation. The calendar people follow in practice depends on sighting the new crescent, and the locally announced day is often one or two days apart, country by country.

Type the date as YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2026-05-15. The Hijri month and year match the tabular calendar, but the day of the month comes from averaged 29.5-day months and can land a day ahead in some months, so check it before copying into paperwork.
