Nowruz, 31 day months and the year 1405
An Iranian document, a visa, a diploma or a news item shows a date written as 1405/02/25 and you need to know which day that is. This page runs the other way: type a Gregorian date in the input field, formatted as 2026-05-15, and it returns the Persian equivalent with day, month name and year. Handy for making sense of paperwork from Iran and Afghanistan, where Jalali is the official calendar.
The Persian year opens at Nowruz, on the March equinox, almost always 20 or 21 March. The first six months have 31 days, the next five have 30, and Esfand closes with 29. The math here uses a fixed offset, treating day 79 of the Gregorian year as 1 Farvardin, and subtracts 621 from the year. That holds up from Nowruz through December. Before Nowruz the year comes out one too high: on 10 January 2026 the correct date is 20 Dey 1404, and the page shows 1405.
From late March to December, in an ordinary Gregorian year, the day and month match the official calendar. In January, February and the first half of March, subtract 1 from the year shown. In a Gregorian leap year, dates after February land one day short. For a visa, a contract or a civil registry entry, confirm with an official converter before signing anything. All the math happens in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
