Organic Fertilizer Per Pot
A pot runs out of nutrients much faster than a garden bed. There's only so much root room and so much substrate to hold things in reserve. For monthly upkeep, a dose that works well is 1–2 tablespoons of organic fertilizer per liter of substrate, scratched lightly into the top 2–3 cm and then watered in. When you first pot up, blending about 10% of the pot volume in worm castings (humus de minhoca) gives you a slow-release base to start from.
Good inputs to reach for: vermicompost, home compost, bokashi (anaerobic fermented bran), aged manure. In Brazil, fertilizer registration goes through MAPA (Ministério da Agricultura), while handling and labeling for related categories falls under ANVISA RDC 24/2005. Get in the habit of reading the N–P–K and the declared humidity on the label.
Applications
Handy for urban gardens, balcony vegetables, ornamentals, herbs, and raising seedlings. It helps you buy the right amount, keeps you from scorching roots with too heavy a hand, and gives you a rhythm to top up every 30–45 days while plants are growing actively.
FAQ
Can I use raw manure? Better not. Fresh manure can burn roots and carry pathogens. Let it cure for at least 60–90 days, or just buy a stabilized product.
How often should I fertilize? Once a month covers leafy crops and ornamentals. Heavy feeders such as tomato and pepper want it every 15–20 days while they're setting fruit.
Is bokashi safe indoors? Yes, as long as it ferments properly—the pH drops and the smell stays mildly sweet/acidic. If it ever turns putrid, stop using it.
