Portuguese Accent Restorer

A name exported from a legacy system, a form that rejects diacritics, a message typed on the wrong keyboard layout: the text arrives complete but flattened. Retyping it by hand is tedious and you always miss a word. Paste it here and you get the accented text back, with a table showing what changed, how many times, and into which word, so you can check before accepting.

What separates a useful tool from one that damages the text is how it handles ambiguous words. Stripped of accents, the Portuguese 'e' can be a conjunction or a verb, 'analise' can be a noun or an imperative, 'esta' a pronoun or a verb. In safe mode the tool does not decide: it brackets the word and leaves the call to you. Words that exist in only one form are replaced outright.

The built-in vocabulary holds roughly 2,800 words and covers everyday Portuguese well, but it is not a full dictionary: proper nouns, technical terms and rare words pass through untouched, and that is deliberate, since guessing an accent in someone's name causes more work than it saves.
