Soybean yield in bags per hectare: how to read productivity in the field
A standard soybean bag (saca) weighs 60 kg. To get yield in bags per hectare, take the harvested mass in kilograms, divide by 60, then divide by the area in hectares. Across Brazil the average lands somewhere around 55β65 sc/ha (roughly 3,300β3,900 kg/ha), and strong regions like Mato Grosso have posted record averages above 70 sc/ha when the season cooperates. Run the numbers: 600 sacas off a 10-hectare lot works out to 60 sc/ha. Plenty of things move that figure, including cultivar choice (EMBRAPA BRS lines, Don Mario, etc.), sowing date, soil fertility, weather and pest pressure.
Applications
Use it to benchmark your own lots or pivots against each other, to check your figures against Conab and IBGE production forecasts, and to price sales off CBOT futures and the basis. It also feeds agricultural credit and crop-insurance proposals (Proagro, Pronaf), input planning by area, and the cost-per-bag math behind a fertilization or defensive package.
FAQ
What is the moisture standard for a soybean bag? Trade usually references 13β14 % moisture. Go above that and the buyer applies discounts (quebra tΓ©cnica) for the excess moisture and for impurities.
How much can a top cultivar deliver? With ideal weather, irrigation and management, EMBRAPA BRS lines and private cultivars (Don Mario, Brasmax) can clear 75 sc/ha, and demonstration plots have pushed past 100 sc/ha.
Why does the average vary so much by region? Latitude, rainfall, soil type and how widely technology has been adopted all differ from place to place. The Cerrado and southern Mato Grosso routinely beat the marginal frontier areas.
How does yield connect to the futures market? Brazilian yield estimates move international prices. A strong harvest here drags CBOT prices down, and a weather problem here lifts global quotes.
