Wall filler (massa corrida) quantity per m²

Wall filler (Brazilian Portuguese: massa corrida) is a paste you spread over interior masonry before painting so the imperfections get leveled out. How much you go through comes down to two things, the state of the surface and how thick you want the finish. The math is consumption_kg = area_m2 × rate_kg_per_m2 × coats, and the rate usually lands around 0.5–1.5 kg/m² per coat for a 1–3 mm layer. Plan on 2 to 3 coats for most jobs, since that's what it takes to bury the texture of the masonry or whatever paint was there before.

It comes in two main families. PVA filler is water-based and low-odor, which makes it a good fit for interior dry walls. Acrylic filler is more flexible and holds up against water, so reach for it in kitchens, bathrooms, external eaves and anywhere humidity is a problem. Brazilian manufacturers include Suvinil, Coral, Lukscolor, Eucatex and Sherwin-Williams. Sand between coats, wipe the dust off with a damp cloth, and stick to the drying time printed on the bucket (usually 4–6 hours between coats at 25 °C and 60 % relative humidity).

Applications

Painters and DIY folks lean on this to size buckets (3.6 kg, 5 kg, 15 kg, 25 kg) before heading to the hardware store, whether the job is a home renovation, post-construction finishing, blending drywall joints, or filling nail holes and cracks before a repaint. Getting the number right keeps you from running short mid-coat, which leaves marks you can't hide, and from buying extra you won't use, since opened buckets harden inside 7–10 days even when you seal them.

FAQ

Can I use PVA filler in the bathroom? Don't. PVA dissolves in water and will peel off once it meets steam and splashes. For any humid spot, go with acrylic filler.

How many coats do I really need? A new wall with good plaster takes 2 coats. Older walls dealing with stains, peeling paint or uneven texture tend to need 3, plus a bit of spot-filling where it matters.

What grit of sandpaper should I use between coats? Grit 120 or 150 works for the in-between sanding, then switch to grit 220 for the final smoothing pass right before you paint.
