Scoring Catan (Settlers of Catan)

In Catan, whoever hits 10 victory points on their own turn takes the game. Here's what each piece adds up to. A settlement = 1 point and a city = 2 points. A road = 0 points on its own, though it does count toward Longest Road. The Longest Road bonus = 2 points and needs 5 or more continuous road segments, while the Largest Army bonus = 2 points kicks in once you've played 3 or more knight development cards. Every Victory Point development card = 1 point. So 3 settlements (3) + 1 city (2) + Longest Road (2) + 2 VP cards (2) lands you at 9 points. Expansions such as Seafarers and Cities & Knights layer on their own scoring rules.

Applications

Reach for this calculator when you want to track scores during play or work out your endgame. It also helps when players disagree over who's actually ahead, when you're running online sessions on BoardGameArena or Catan Universe, or just during a family game night.

FAQ

Do roads count for points? On their own, no. Roads are worth 0 points and only become relevant once you claim the Longest Road bonus.

Are VP cards revealed? No. Victory Point cards stay face down until you've got enough points to win on your turn.

Can the Longest Road bonus be stolen? Yes. The moment another player builds a longer continuous road, the bonus (2 points) passes to them.
