Brasília metro travel time estimator

The Metrô do Distrito Federal is the rapid-transit system serving Brasília and the satellite cities around the DF. To get a rough travel time, use t = n × (parada + trecho). Here n is how many stations sit between your origin and destination, parada is the time the train waits at each platform (about 30 s), and trecho is the average run from one station to the next (~2 min in the central core, and a bit longer as you head out toward Ceilândia and Samambaia).

The network runs 2 lines (Verde and Laranja) across 24 stations, linking the Plano Piloto with Samambaia and Ceilândia. On a normal day it moves about 200,000 passengers per day, with trains arriving every 8 to 15 minutes, and the fare is a flat R$ 5.00. Operations are handled by the Companhia do Metropolitano do DF (Metrô DF), which answers to the local government. People have talked about an extension to Asa Norte for ages, but it is still on the drawing board.

Applications

Daily commute between Ceilândia/Samambaia and the federal centre (Esplanada dos Ministérios, Rodoviária do Plano). Access to the Estadio Mané Garrincha through Central station. And connections to bus lines at the Rodoviária do Plano Piloto terminal.

FAQ

Does the metro reach Asa Norte? No. The line stops at Central, over in Asa Sul. An extension to Asa Norte has been on the books for years, but it never moved past the study phase.

How long is a typical commute from Ceilândia to the centre? Figure on 40–50 minutes end-to-end, though it shifts with the time of day and where you board.

What are the operating hours? Trains usually run Mon–Fri from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Service thins out on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
