Easter Date (any year)
Compute Christian Easter date for any year (Gauss/Anonymous algorithm).
Why Easter moves around the calendar
Easter drags half the calendar along with it: Carnival, Good Friday and Corpus Christi all move each year because they hang off its date. If you build school calendars, shift rosters, production schedules or payroll systems, you need the exact date years in advance. Here you just type a year and the tool prints Easter Sunday in full, with the weekday, day and month, for any year you like.
The rule goes back to the Council of Nicaea: Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon falling on or after March 21. The key word is ecclesiastical: the Church uses a tabular moon, not the real one in the sky, which is why the whole computation (the computus, here the anonymous Gregorian algorithm) works with plain integer arithmetic and no astronomy. The result always lands between March 22 and April 25.
Once you have Easter Sunday, the movable dates fall out by simple offsets: Carnival Tuesday is 47 days before, Good Friday 2 days before, Corpus Christi 60 days after. The algorithm is valid for the Gregorian calendar, meaning 1583 onward; for earlier years the output does not match the Easter actually celebrated back then. It also does not cover Orthodox Easter, which follows the Julian calendar. Everything is computed in your browser.
