Convert an accuracy specification given as a percentage of full scale (% FS) into the absolute error in engineering units, Error = (accuracy% · span)/100. Since the %FS error is constant across the range, it represents a larger relative error at low readings — so it is important to translate it into real units. Folhas de dados costumam especificar a exatidão como '±0,5% do fundo de escala' (% FS). O detalhe traiçoeiro: esse erro é constante em toda a faixa, calculado sobre o span inteiro — Erro = (exatidão%·span)/100 — e não sobre a leitura atual. Num instrumento de span 200 com ±1% FS, o erro é sempre ±2 unidades, esteja a leitura em 180 ou em 10. Isso significa que, nas leituras baixas, o erro relativo dispara: ±2 sobre uma leitura de 10 é 20% de erro real! Por isso especialistas recomendam operar instrumentos na metade superior da faixa, e preferir, quando possível, exatidão dada '% da leitura' em vez de '% do fundo de escala'.
