Military Uniform Allowance Calculator (Brazilian Armed Forces)

The auxílio fardamento is a yearly allowance that active-duty members of the Brazilian Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) receive to buy and replace the regulation uniforms, insignia and equipment they are required to keep. The rough estimate works out to annual value ≈ grade-table amount (R$ 1,500 to R$ 5,000/year). How much you get depends on rank. Praças (soldiers, cabos, sargentos) sit at the bottom of the range, while officers like capitão, major, coronel and general are paid more.

The rules in force today come from Law 13.954/2019 (the military reform), which Ministry of Defence ordinances and each force's own regulations fill out. Payment usually lands between April and June, as a single yearly installment. Because the allowance counts as taxable compensation and not a reimbursement, income tax (IR) and the military social-security contribution both apply to it. Officers taking courses or stepping into new posts can also get an extraordinary top-up to cover the initial uniform set.

Applications

Enlisted personnel and officers lean on it when they budget the year ahead for uniforms, dress kit, boots, gala accessories and rank insignia. Cadets at AMAN, EsPCEx, EAOF and EN can use it to gauge what their initial outfitting will cost. Pay clerks and military lawyers also check the table to confirm paychecks are right and to push back on payments that fall below it.

FAQ

When is the uniform allowance paid? Once a year, normally somewhere between April and June, dropped in alongside the regular paycheck. A few forces announce the exact date in an annual ordinance.

Is the allowance taxed? Yes. Since it's paid as compensation rather than a reimbursement of receipts, it counts as taxable income (IRRF) and carries the military social-security contribution.

Does the value vary by rank? Yes. Praças land in the lower bracket, roughly R$ 1,500 to R$ 2,500/year. Officers see R$ 3,000 to R$ 5,000+, depending on grade and whichever ordinance applies. The Ministry of Defence revises the table from time to time.
