Payment usually lands between April and June, as a single yearly installment. Because the allowance counts as taxable compensation and not a reimbursement, income tax (IR) and the military social-security contribution both apply to it. Officers taking courses or stepping into new posts can also get an extraordinary top-up to cover the initial uniform set.
