Police uniform allowance (Brazil)
State police officers (PM and PC) get the police uniform allowance ("auxΓlio fardamento") once a year so they can replace their operational and service uniforms. Each state writes its own law to set the amount. For reference: PM-SP β R$ 2.500/year, PM-RJ β R$ 1.800, PM-MG β R$ 1.700. The money usually arrives in April or May.
What it covers: combat uniform, operational uniform, service uniform, ballistic vest, boots, belt and accessories. Textile items get replaced every 2-3 years; the ballistic vest lasts about 5 years, which lines up with when its NIJ certification expires.
Applications
State law (LC 207/79 SP, RJ Decree etc), state HR planning, retired officer rights, JECrim oversight and STM appeals in military justice.
FAQ
Is it taxable? Yes. Both income tax and the pension contribution apply.
What if I don't spend it all? You keep it. It's a fixed sum, not a reimbursement, so there's nothing to pay back.
Retired officers receive it? As a rule, no. Standard regulations pay it only to officers still on active duty.
