Name Numerology Score
Pythagorean numerology gives every letter a value from 1 to 9 (A=1, B=2, C=3, …, I=9, J=1, …, R=9, S=1, …, Z=8). To score a full name you take sum(letter_values) and keep reducing it down to a single digit. The one exception is the master numbers 11, 22 and 33, which stay as they are.
A full name yields three classical numbers. The Expression Number uses all the letters. The Soul Urge Number uses only the vowels and is read as your inner motivations, while the Personality Number uses only the consonants and stands for the outward persona. The system is attributed to the Greek mathematician and mystic Pythagoras (6th century B.C.) and was popularized in the West by L. Dow Balliett in the early 20th century.
Disclaimer: numerology is meant for entertainment and a bit of self-reflection. It isn't a scientific practice, and it's no substitute for professional advice.
Applications
Hobbyists reach for it to dig into the symbolic meaning of a name. Parents try it out while picking baby names, brand consultants weigh naming options with it, content creators lean on it for esoteric material, and writers use it to choose character names that carry some thematic weight.
FAQ
Should I use my birth name or my current name? Traditional numerology goes with the full name registered at birth. Modern readings often run the current or preferred name too, to catch how identity changes over time.
What are master numbers? These are 11, 22 and 33, and you don't reduce them. The tradition treats them as vibrationally intense and connects them to a higher spiritual potential.
Do accents and special characters count? No. Only the 26 Latin letters carry values, so names usually get normalized (accents stripped out) before the calculation.
