Parking Space Size Brazil Calculator

Suggests minimum garage parking space dimensions according to vehicle type and side column presence following NBR 9050 standards.

Parking space dimensions in Brazil

Most municipal COE codes copy the NBR 9050 / São Paulo COE template for a standard car space, which is 2.30 m wide by 4.50 m long, all clear. Accessible spaces (PCD) go up to 3.50 m wide so there is room on the side for a wheelchair transfer, that side strip itself being 1.20 m. The elderly space (idoso) stays at 2.50 m by 4.50 m. Sitting next to a column? Add 5-10 cm of clearance.

The maneuvering aisle behind 90° spaces has to be 5.00 m wide. Angle the spaces at 60° and you can drop that to 4.50 m, while 45° spaces get by with 3.50 m. CONTRAN caps the ramp slope into the garage at 20%. On longer ramps you also need transition curves, otherwise the bumper scrapes.

Applications

Residential condos, commercial buildings, shopping malls, COE compliance, accessibility under Lei 13.146/2015, and the Estatuto do Idoso (Lei 10.741/2003), which reserves 5% of total spaces for the elderly.

FAQ

Are PCD spaces really mandatory? Yes. You need 2% of the total, never fewer than 1, and they have to be marked and placed close to the entrance.

Can I count a column between two spaces? Only when the column falls inside the side clearance margin. Outside it, the space loses its certification.

Tandem spaces (one behind the other)? The COE allows them, though most condo bylaws still count the pair as a single rented space.
