Tarot Cards per Spread
A full tarot deck holds 78 cards. There are 22 Major Arcana, the archetypal figures such as The Fool, The Magician and The World, and then 56 Minor Arcana spread across four suits (Cups, Pentacles, Swords, Wands) with 14 cards in each. For modern readings, the Rider-Waite-Smith deck (1909) is still the reference most people reach for.
A few spread sizes come up again and again. Pull 1 card for a yes/no answer or a daily focus. Lay 3 cards for past–present–future, which is the layout most readers know. The Pyramid spread uses 6 cards, and the Celtic Cross, the most detailed of the traditional layouts, runs to 10 cards.

Applications
Hobbyist readers use it to plan a session, beginners lean on it while they learn how spreads are built, content creators reach for it when putting together tarot tutorials, and event organizers check it to estimate what they will need for fairs and workshops.
FAQ
Which spread should a beginner start with? Start with the 3-card past–present–future spread. It is quick to lay out, and the reading is easy to follow.
Why is the Celtic Cross so popular? Its 10 positions walk through the situation, the challenge, the foundation, the recent past, a possible outcome, the near future, self-perception, environment, hopes and fears, and the final outcome. That is a full narrative arc in one layout.
Can I use only the Major Arcana? You can. Reading with just the 22 Major Arcana is common when the question is about big-picture themes and spiritual lessons.
