Enem Score Needed for Medicine

Medicine cutoffs are the highest in SISU

Public medical schools in Brazil admit students through SISU, which ranks people by their weighted ENEM average. No other course climbs this high. Look at the numbers: USP 780–810, UFRJ 760–790, UFMG ~780, UFRGS ~770, UnB ~770, UFPR ~760. The essay (redação) usually carries the heaviest weight, Γ—3 at USP, which means a 900+ essay can pull you back up after a rough exact-sciences section. Affirmative-action quotas (PPI, low-income, public-school) shave roughly 30–50 points off the cutoff. Example: someone scoring 770 falls about 20 points short of USP on the general list, yet gets in through the low-income quota, where the bar sits closer to 750.

Applications

Most people reach for this during the SISU first call and the remanejamento that follows. Medicine slots almost never show up on ProUni, since private tuition runs R$ 8–12k a month and full scholarships are thin on the ground. FIES can cover up to 100% of that private tuition, with repayment kicking in after you graduate. Run your simulado score here to see how it stacks up against the realistic floor at each federal, then lock in your SISU choice with that in mind.

FAQ

Are these cutoffs fixed? No. They move 5–15 points from one year to the next, driven by how hard the exam was and who showed up to take it.

Does the quota cutoff really drop by 30–50 points? At USP and most federals, yes. How much it actually drops comes down to how full each quota subgroup is by the time remanejamento happens.

What if I score 820+? At that point you can hold your own on the general list at USP and UFRJ. That puts you among the strongest applicants in the country.

Is the second-call (remanejamento) cutoff lower? Most of the time, yes, by about 5–20 points, because some admitted candidates leave for other options and free up spots.
