How the bridge is calculated

For every holiday that lands on a working day, the planner tries each split of your available days between "before the holiday" and "after the holiday". It then walks outward from the holiday, crossing weekends and neighbouring holidays for free and spending one day of leave for each working day it bridges. The combination that produces the longest run of consecutive days off wins; ties go to the cheaper one.

The efficiency ratio is the number of days off divided by the days of leave spent. A Tuesday holiday bridged with the Monday before and the Wednesday after turns 2 days of leave into 5 days away from work — a ratio of 2.5. Nothing is uploaded: the whole calendar is built inside your browser.

Turning Brazilian holidays into long weekends

Tiradentes Day 2026 falls on a Tuesday. Take the Monday and the Wednesday off and you leave work on Saturday 18 April and come back on Thursday 23: five straight days away for two days of leave. This planner runs that arithmetic across the whole year, holiday by holiday, and shows which dates repay the leave you spend and which ones already give you a break for free.

The calendar arrives loaded with the thirteen Brazilian national holidays, including the movable ones tied to Easter, and you choose whether the optional public-sector days for Carnival, Corpus Christi and Our Lady of Aparecida join them. State and city holidays go in the text box, one date per line, written as 20/01 or 20/01/2026 with an optional name after the semicolon. Saturday workers tick one box and every result changes.

Each card shows the ratio between days off and days of leave spent, which is the number to compare before committing your vacation. A Tuesday holiday usually pays 2.5; a Wednesday one rarely beats 1.8, because the bridge has to cover both sides. The lost list collects holidays that landed on a Saturday or Sunday, and the calendar button downloads an .ics file with every recommended block already marked as an all-day event.

Frequently asked questions

Do my city holidays count?

They do, once you type them in. The extra holidays box takes one date per line, in DD/MM or DD/MM/YYYY, with an optional name after a semicolon. Dates that do not exist in the chosen year, such as 29/02 outside a leap year, show up as a warning and are dropped without stopping the rest of the plan.

Why do some holidays get no suggestion?

Because they fall on a Saturday or Sunday and cannot produce extra time off under any combination. Those appear in the lost section with the date and weekday only. Setting the available days field to zero has a similar effect: the planner stops proposing leave and shows just the rest already built into the calendar.

Does the .ics file work in Google Calendar?

Yes. Every recommended block becomes an all-day event whose end date is the day after the break ends, which is what the iCalendar standard requires. Import the file into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. The CSV behind the other button uses semicolons as separators and opens straight into Excel in Portuguese locales.
