How long until your birthday?

That calculation you keep doing in your head and never get quite right. The tool takes your date of birth and shows exactly how long is left until your next birthday, split into days, hours, minutes and seconds.

Along with the countdown, it tells you which day of the week the birthday lands on. You can start figuring out whether it falls on a weekend, whether it stretches into a long weekend, or whether there's going to be a party at all. A small detail that helps you plan.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the day and hour figures not add up together?

Because the two boxes read the same interval in different ways, instead of splitting it into parts. The day box rounds the whole stretch up, while the hour box converts that very same stretch entirely into hours: with ten days to go, one shows 10 and the other lands near 233, rather than ten days and five hours. There are no minute or second boxes, and the figures sit still — they move only when the date field changes.

Today is my birthday. Why does it show almost a year?

Because the comparison runs against the moment the page loads, and today's birthday began at midnight, which already puts it in the past. The count jumps to the following year: roughly 365 days, with an age one number above the one being celebrated right now. There is no zero-day state and no congratulations message — on the day itself, the count already points at the next lap.

I was born on 29 February. What happens to the count?

The target date gets built from the current year plus the birth day and month, and 29 February in a common year slides over to 1 March. That 1 March is what the countdown and the weekday end up describing, with no notice on screen. Keep in mind the next-age box is just the target year minus the birth year, so a mistyped year comes out as an odd figure, with no complaint at all.
