Wordle in Portuguese

Wordle became a worldwide craze on a lean idea: guess a secret five-letter word in up to six tries. This Portuguese version brings the challenge with a word bank in our language, great for anyone who wants to play without tripping over English.

The colours guide your reasoning with each try. Green is the right letter in the right place; yellow is a letter that's in the word but in the wrong position; grey is one that doesn't appear at all. Each guess narrows the possibilities, in a game of deduction that mixes vocabulary and logic.

With no install and no sign-up, it runs in the browser. The word is drawn fresh each round rather than once a day, so play as many times as you like to exercise your mind and your Portuguese vocabulary.

Frequently asked questions

Can I guess any five-letter string?

Yes. There is no dictionary check on the guess: "aaaaa" goes through, gets coloured normally and burns one of the six tries. That leaves room for an aggressive opening, throwing five distinct letters at the board just to map what the answer contains, with no concern for whether the string is a real word. The secret word itself comes from a closed list of 236 five-letter entries built into the page.

How do I type Ç or an accented letter?

You can't, and you don't need to. The on-screen keyboard carries only the 26 QWERTY letters, and the physical keyboard is filtered down to A through Z, so a cedilla, a tilde or an accent gets ignored on keypress. The word list follows the same rule, stored bare. If the answer is ácido or sabão, it lands on the board as ACIDO and SABAO, and that stripped form is what to type.

Is it one shared word a day, like the original?

No. Unlike the original Wordle, the draw here is random and local: every page load and every click on Novo Jogo (New Game) pulls a fresh word from the list, so two people playing in the same minute get different answers and one word can repeat two rounds in a row. Nothing is stored either, with no streak, no stats and no saved game in progress, so a refresh mid-round starts everything over.
