Before age 3, the usual advice is a rice-grain smear of fluoridated toothpaste (~0.1 g) at 1000–1100 ppm fluoride. To find how much fluoride that smear carries per brushing, use amount_mg = mass_g × ppm / 1000. Run the numbers and a 0.1 g smear of 1100 ppm paste comes out to roughly 0.11 mg.

Once a child reaches 3 to 6 years, move up to a pea-sized portion (~0.3 g) of paste at 1100–1500 ppm, which works out to about 0.33–0.45 mg each time they brush.
